Hello and Welcome
The start line
I have been thinking about starting a substack for a while. It was only after a flight from Rome at the end of the Giro d’Italia that I decided to start putting the idea of doing this into some proper action. It was probably sitting next to my fellow commentator Ned Boulting for 2 and a half hours on a EasyJet flight that did it. His excellent substack clearly gives him a lot of pleasure in writing and interacting with his community that he has built. I had just finished writing the first draft of the book that my co-commentator Nico Roche and I have been working on, with time freed up I looked into how all this works.
So welcome! For those of you that don’t know me, let me introduce myself. I am Anthony. I am a cycling commentator and speaker. You may have heard me on the Tour de France, maybe in the Netflix series Tour de France Unchained or been at a bike race like the Giro d’Italia where I am the race speaker in English. I spend most of my year travelling from race to race talking about the great riders that we enjoy watching and adding information about the areas we travel through.
I have started this substack that as a title I am going to refer to as my Cycling Social. A place to share stories, give you some on road insights and also some observations about the races. Some posts will be short dispatches, some written, some audio, some more in depth posts. But I will try and bring you a little closer to the people, places and moments that make cycling such a fascinating sport.
I am going to feel my way through this in the coming months but will ramp up the content at the Tour de France. With you along for the journey and maybe giving me some pointers on content you would like to see, I hope we can have some fun and learn all about this sport.
Thanks for reading
Anthony
